Editorial 334

Welcome to the August/September edition of Tipton Times. We are delighted to hear the news that Devon County Council are in the process of submitting a planning application for the re-siting of the primary school within the village. We understand that this is by no means a ‘done deal’ yet, but it represents real progress and the prospect that the school will stay as part of the village community. There is no doubt that communities which lose their schools suffer a number of unintended consequences, so let’s hope that this news quickly becomes reality.

John Sargent    6th November 1938 – 1st June 2026

John who died on 1st June was the youngest of five children born to Stanley and Lilian Sargent. John was the only one of the siblings to be born at Tipton Mill where he would live all his life until deteriorating health forced the move into long-term care.

The 2026 (H)Otter Rail & River Run

The 19th edition of the Otter Rail & River 10km and Fun Run was another great success. The event, which took place on Saturday, 11 July, raised more than £4,500 for the Tipton Playing Fields and other local causes.

Primary School Rebuild Update

As you will be aware, our school is required to relocate due to the serious flooding issues on the existing site. The rebuild is due to be funded and delivered by the Department for Education as part of the Government’s School Rebuilding Programme. The first step is for Devon County Council to identify and provide the Department for Education with a suitable piece of land.
